093 – Follow your PASSION with Mike Johnston

To be honest with you, when I heard that I would be interviewing a drum teacher I was not 100% sure whether it would be the kind of show that was suited for The Kickass Life.  What happened next blew my mind. Mike Johnston’s story is so incredibly powerful and his passion oozes out of every word. This is a story of how one man went against the odds and gave up the “high life” as a musician traveling the world, to follow his passion for teaching, and how his passion has turned into a multi-million dollar enterprise that truly inspires others. This was one of those interviews where the end comes way too quickly,  and I was left wanting more. What’s the little voice in your head whispering? And do you have the courage to listen and then follow the path of your deepest passion? Find out how Mike did just that. 600 Seconds – 030- The Six Basic Human Needs

Posted by on 7:03 pm in 600 Seconds, Podcasts | Comments Off on 600 Seconds – 030- The Six Basic Human Needs

600 Seconds – 030- The Six Basic Human Needs

1. Certainty Certainty gives us a sense of security. When things are certain or predictable, we feel more secure and at ease. It reduces our need to be in the “fight or flight” mode. A cohesive family unit, a peaceful community and predictable weather all provide us with certainty. On the other hand, wars, natural disasters, corruptions and unconventional behaviors all make us feel insecure because of their uncertainty. 2. Variety However, even as we appreciate certainty, we also crave for varieties. When things are too predictable, we become bored. So we seek varieties in our life. We pursue new challenges, set new goals and explore new frontiers. 3. Significance We also have the need to feel special. We want to be unique, one of a kind, and we want others to appreciate our uniqueness. 4. Connection or Love We have the need to be accepted, included and loved. We need to feel connected to humanity and life as a whole. 5. Growth When the first four basic needs of the ego are met to our satisfaction, we recognize the new need to grow, to transform and become better than what we are. We strive for self improvement and personal transformation. 6. Contribution We also have the altruistic need to contribute to society and humanity, or to borrow a term from Abraham Maslow, to actualize. – See more at:...

600 Seconds – 029 – The Power in Saying YES!

Posted by on 5:57 pm in 600 Seconds, Podcasts | Comments Off on 600 Seconds – 029 – The Power in Saying YES!

600 Seconds – 029 – The Power in Saying YES!

David shares about the inspiration he felt when two of the people who joined him and climbed Kilimanjaro both said YES just a few days before they had to leave to go to Africa. Most people use considerations before saying yes, which often leads to a NO or to never making a decision at all. When we say YES first, and then look at the considerations, it wraps the decision with a whole new energy. What we find when we say YES, and THEN look at the considerations: Begin with a YES in mind, and you will actually find solutions to one of the two major default modes:  “I cant afford it”, &  “I don’t have the time”. David also looks at how “NO’s” can be much more powerful when we don’t wrap them in little white lies or justifications. So, choose YES, and THEN look at the considerations, and use NO with clean, truthful, and considerate power, and you will take a huge leap in living a Kickass Life. 088 – Kute Blackson Inspires Boundless Bliss

Posted by on 7:21 pm in Podcasts | Comments Off on 088 – Kute Blackson Inspires Boundless Bliss

CLICK HERE FOR BOUNDLESS BLISS: A BREAKTHROUGH BALI EXPERIENCE Kute Blackson is an utterly unique visionary in the world of human potential. Unlike those who promise to simply help people “get” what they want, Kute’s life work instead reveals to people what they have to give, by liberating who they are most truly and deeply. The focus: Freedom. Kute’s own background and experience lay out the blueprint for his approach to liberating others, setting their gifts and greatness free. Born in Ghana, West Africa, his multicultural upbringing as the child of a Japanese mother and Ghanaian father, raised in London, and on 4 different continents defies all stereotype. The son of a revered spiritual leader, Kute was speaking to his fatherʼs congregations, in more than 300 churches, by the age of 8. At the age of 14, he was ordained into his fatherʼs ministry and groomed to carry on the familyʼs spiritual legacy. But his heartʼs truth drew him to separate from his fatherʼs ministry and come to Los Angeles in 1995. Kute courageously and daringly, came to America with two suitcases, and a dream seeking out many of the spiritual and self-help icons who inspired him when he was still a boy. He quickly learned that the outside- in approach had to become an inside-out approach. So he decided to create his own process—a process that liberates the individual at the core. This process helps the individual get in touch with who they really. It is a process of breaking free, so that each person can live, give, and share the truest expression of his or her self. This is what he calls “Liberated Living.” According to Kute, once freed of the conditioned responses scripted by family, society, institutions and the media, people are no longer limited to pre-programmed interactions in the course of living. In fact, life becomes an expansive, jazzy improvisation, that he calls “Freefall.” Today, the venue for his message may be one-on-one, a vast stadium setting, a corporate seminar or anything in-between. His electrifying presentations are especially sought after by major companies, such as American Financial Group, REMAX and TCG, that are seeking to redefine their paradigm of success and inspire greatness. Kute uses a variety of modalities to help people break out of old patterns, including the high frequency messages in his newly released Love Now CD and Love Now music video thatʼs being watched by people around the world. His book is set for release in 2012, and he is currently developing a television talk-show for national distribution. Kute is a global authority in “Transformational Immersion Journeys”. He is known worldwide for creating the unique and revolutionary “Liberation Experience,” where he travels with an individual client, one-on-one, across India, for 14 days, as well as the creator of the group process “Boundless Bliss—The Bali Breakthrough Experience”. “On the Liberation Experience, I am with the participant 24- hours a day. Not only do they have no idea where they are going, they carry no money, and have no immediate identity, since I also hold their passport. A single change of clothes is their only tenuous thread to the life they left behind. It is an experience guaranteed to shatter every paradigm.” Kute has helped and is in high demand among people from all...

085 – Actress, Singer, & Philanthropist Gloria Loring

Posted by on 7:10 pm in Interview Shows, Podcasts | 1 comment

This wonderful show with Gloria Loring looks at the story of her life from recording artist, actress, author and philanthropist and how she came to understand that the coincidences in her life were truly “God’s way of remaining anonymous” that led her to discovering and falling in love with her authentic self. Gloria is the recording artist of the #1 hit song Friends and Lovers; co-composer of television theme songs Diff’rent Strokes and Facts Of Life; an audience favorite as “Liz Chandler” on Days Of Our Lives; spokesperson for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; the author of five books benefitting people with diabetes;a keynote speaker for corporations and non-profits; and one of few artists to sing two nominated songs on the Academy Awards. The depth and diversity of Gloria’s talents and skills are impressive. As a performer, she toggles from classic rock to standards, from Broadway to pop, in clubs, performing arts centers, symphonies, and casinos. She’s starred in movies of the week, television specials, and theatrical productions, including a national tour of Anything Goes. She is a certified yoga instructor and an articulate champion of biomedical research. Gloria’s new musical show TV Tunez, a celebration of television’s best theme songs that earned standing ovations, is in development for a Las Vegas run. She is currently in the studio with producer Ted Perlman and songwriting legends Burt Bacharach and Desmond Child. Standing ovations greeted Gloria’s recent concerts with The Palm Beach Pops Symphony in tribute to the Streisand Songbook. The Palm Beach Daily News raved, “Loring commanded the stage from Note One… First and foremost, the lady came to sing — and sing she did — bringing the right combination of pipes and acting chops to give the evening’s tall order its due.” After her four-year-old son was diagnosed with diabetes, she created and self-published two volumes of the Days Of Our Lives Celebrity Cookbook which raised more than $1 million for diabetes research. She has also written Kids, Food and Diabetes, Parenting a Child with Diabetes, The Kids, Food & Diabetes Family Cookbook, and Living With Type 2 Diabetes: Moving Past the Fear. Gloria’s newest book, a spiritual autobiography titled Coincidence Is God’s Way of Remaining Anonymous, details a series of extraordinary coincidences that transformed her life and provides insight into how each of us can use coincidence for good. It is represented by William Gladstone of Waterside Productions whose clients include Neale Donald Walsh and Eckhart Tolle. She has shared the stage with the Pointer Sisters, the Supremes, Billy Crystal, Bill Cosby, and Bob Hope, and performed on numerous award shows, including the Emmy Awards, Academy Awards, and Golden Globes. In the beginning of her career, Gloria was profiled in an hour-long documentary, “Two Singers,” with the legendary Aretha Franklin. Gloria is featured on saxophone hottie Jimmy Sommers’ CD, Time Stands Still, singing the Peggy Lee classic, Fever. In an intriguing twist, her newest CD, A Playlist, features her R&B sensation son, Robin Thicke, on two tracks, and days after its release, jazz guitarist Gil Parris invited her to record Robin’s mega-hit Lost Without You with him. Gloria was honored by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation with the Lifetime Commitment Awardand the Founders Award from the National Disease Research Interchange. The Miss America Organization gave her the Woman of Achievement Award, an honor she shares with past recipients Barbara Bush, Roslyn Carter, and Hillary Clinton. She is listed in...

Honored by Hay House as one of their 2010 “Movers and Shakers.” Lisa Michaels, is a celebrated Elemental Wisdom Teacher, Speaker, Expert on Holistic Living and Author of “Natural Rhythms”. David shares how his journey was deeply impacted by the work he did with an Elemental Wisdom Teacher and how his connection with the natural realm has been instrumental in his own success. In Lisa Words….. I began helping people deepen their spirituality, activate their inner priest/ess, navigate transformation, and learn to connect to the natural world so they could use their inner guidance to more consciously create their lives. An enormous part of these teachings has been discovering how the masculine and feminine principles learn to co-create together, both inside and out. When these two aspects work well together in a person’s life their creation dance becomes more filled with grace and ease “Creation tools work exactly the same way no matter what it is we apply them to: better relationships, health, business building, increasing income, dancing through life, or living in harmony with Nature. Just like the physical art of dancing, dancing with the principles of creation takes practice” [ilink url=”http://www.thekickasslife.com/lma” style=”download”]Click here for more information on Lisa Michaels and Natural Rhythms[/ilink]...

058 – What it takes to win – Roger Bannister’s Sub 4-Minute Mile

“When you do nothing, you feel overwhelmed and powerless. But when you get involved, you feel the sense of hope and accomplishment that comes from knowing you are working to make things better.” – Zig Ziglar Join David as he explores what it took for Roger Bannister to break a record that the experts said could never be broken, and what it takes to shift your mindset so that you can break your own records. On May 6th, 1954, an unidentified announcer gave the results for the recently completed race in a track and field meet being held at Oxford University. As he uttered “In the one-mile run, with a first place winning time of three-minutes …,” the crowd interrupted him, cheering in sheer excitement. The winner of the race, the new world record holder and the first person to finish a mile in less than four minutes was Dr. Roger Bannister – a young medical student from Oxford University.  His official time, once the crowd permitted the announcer to continue, was 3 minutes and 59.4 seconds. In the years following Dr. Bannister’s May 6, 1954 feat, hundreds of runners have run sub-four-minute miles (and some runners have achieved the feat hundreds of times themselves). In fact, later in May 1954, John Landy, a miler from Australia, also ran the mile in less than four minutes – lowering the world record for the mile to 3:58.0. As of today, men over the age of 30 have run miles in less than four minutes as well as men over the age of 40. There are even women within striking distance of the sub-four-minute milestone. Currently, the world record is more than 15 seconds under four minutes. However, prior to Dr. Bannister’s accomplishment, few believed that a human would ever break the four-minute-mile barrier. Experts from the athletic, medical and scientific community regarded running a sub-four-minute mile as an insurmountable limitation of the human body. After all, the previous world record of 4:01.3 had stood unchanged for nine years. Despite what the experts said, Bannister thought otherwise. In his mind, it was not a question of whether or not someone could run a sub-four-minute mile. For Bannister the questions to be answered were “who” and “when.” Bannister believed that someone would break the four-minute barrier. He believed that he was capable of doing it. He believed that his unique training methods would enable him to do it. And, in the end, his convictions and confidence carried him to world-renowned prominence. Video...

In your most important relationships, how much do you accept yourself and the other person? How many times have you chosen the small thing over the big beautiful thing? The below exercise is designed to help you acknowledge how you’ve built the foundation of your relationship, and how you can strengthen that foundation with acceptance and love. This exercise has been simplified and shortened from the version you will find in the book, Hand Me a Wrench, My Life Is Out of Whack. Using paper and pen/pencil, choose a relationship you’d like to work with for this exercise. Divide the paper into three vertical columns. Title the columns left to right: “Love it,” “Drives Me Nuts,” “Why.” In the “Love it” column write down one thing you love about your relationship. In the “Drives Me Nuts” column, write down one thing you don’t like about your relationship. In the “Why” column write down why you feel the way you do. Turn the paper over or get a new sheet. Divide the paper into three vertical columns. Title the columns left to right: “Small Thing,” “Big Beautiful Thing,” “New Decision/Behavior.” In the “Small Thing” column, write out your fear/judgment/expectation/sadness that surfaces when the other person does the thing that drives you nuts. In the “Big Beautiful Thing” column, write out what part of your love or acceptance of yourself or the other person is blocked by the small thing. In the third column, write out the new choice you are going to make so you can be side by side addressing this problem, instead of putting this problem between you. It’s possible that your new decision will be a change in behavior on your part that doesn’t require any discussion. Other types of problems will require the two of you working in supportive partnership to solve it. When you introduce the subject, talk about how the other person’s behavior affects you rather than point out that their behavior is wrong. Remember, the goal is to do this side by side. No one is going to be right in this discussion, but you both can be loved. Find this and many other life-affirming exercises in Laura’s new book, Hand Me a Wrench, My Life’s Out of Whack: Understanding the Decisions We Make and Discovering the Power to Change.
